Goals:
- I can identify 90 degree angles
- I can describe and provide examples of edges and faces of 3-D objects, and sides of 2-D shapes that are: parallel, intersecting, perpendicular, vertical, and horizontal.
- I can identify and sort quadrilaterals, including: squares, rectangles, parallelograms, rhombuses, and trapezoids according to their attributes.
- I can identify and describe a single transformation, including a translation, rotation and reflection of 2-D shapes.
- I can perform, concretely, a single transformation (translation, rotation or reflection) of a 2-D shape, and draw the image.

Unit Vocabulary
Quadrilateral: a 2D four-sided shape
Square: four sided shape where all sides are straight and have equal length and all interior angles are right angles (90°). Rectangle: four sided shape where all sides are straight and opposite sides are parallel and have equal length, and all interior angles are right angles (90°). Parallelogram: four sided shape where opposite sides are parallel and have equal length, and opposite angles are equal. Rhombus: four-sided shape where all sides are equal length, opposite sides are parallel and opposite angles are equal. Trapezoid: four-sided shape where sides are straight and one pair of opposite sides are parallel. Net: a pattern that you can cut and fold to make a 3D shape. Face: an individual surface of a 3D shape. Vertex: a point where two or more line segments meet (a corner). Edge: a line segment between two vertices or boundary where two faces meet. |
line in an Parallel: two lines on a plane that never meet. Always equal distance apart.
Intersecting: two lines intersect when they cross over. Perpendicular: lines that are at right angles to each other. Vertical: going in an up-down direction. Example: the buildings downtown are vertical. Horizontal: going side-to-side, parallel to the horizon. Translation: sliding a shape so that you are moving it, but not reflecting or rotating it. The shape still looks exactly the same, just in a different spot. Rotation: a rotation has a central point that is fixed (doesn't move) Reflection: an image or shape seen as it would be in a mirror. |
Projects
Mini Putt Golf Course Design Project
Using knowledge of shapes, lines and angles, students are to design and label a mini putt golf course Tut's Tablet Maze
Using their knowledge of translations, rotations and reflections, students are to design a maze to find hidden treasures. |
